internship office
Due to great demand, unfortunately it is no longer possible to apply for internship lessons for the study year 2009-2010.
During their course, students of Rotterdam Conservatoire are given preparation for present-day teaching work. Current professional practice calls for enthusiastic and flexible teachers. To satisfy this demand, every student is trained to be a professional in the educative field. The student is given preparation to be able to supervise musical developments on every level: from beginner to advanced and from amateur to future career musician.
Teaching practice lessons are given by second-year students of the Bachelor of Music programme at Rotterdam Conservatoire.
The lessons
The Internship Office differentiates 3 paths of following teaching practice lessons, namely:
I. Individual lessons (around 20 lessons) of half an hour at the following academies: Rotterdam Classical Music Academy, Rotterdam Jazz Academy and Rotterdam World Music Academy (except for percussion lessons).
In consultation with the student and his or her internship supervisor, a day is agreed. Usually this is the day that the supervisor is present at the school. Lesson times are always after 18.00 hours, after the daily regular lessons at the conservatoire are over. The lessons will begin from the end of October or beginning of November. There are no lessons in the school vacations. Mastery of the instrument is not necessary.
II. At the Rotterdam Pop Academy. This concerns a project of around 15 lessons of 1.5 hours. The first half hour is either an individual or group lesson on an instrument (voice too) and subsequently there is an hour in a band formation (combo).
At the end of the project a presentation is given. Usually the lessons start at the end of January and will take place on Monday and Tuesday from 18.30-20.00 hours. In the school vacations there are no lessons. Mastery of the instrument is not necessary.
III. Group lessons (around 20 lessons) of half an hour at the Rotterdam World Music Academy – percussion study area.

Staff and students of Codarts, University for the Arts and pupils of the Havo for Music and Dance. However, outsiders can also apply to be a pupil in the teaching practice lessons. Outsiders should be at least twelve years old.
Application
Applications to take part in the teaching practice lessons are only possible through the ‘teaching practice lessons application form’ (pdf - in Dutch).
Fees
For all three paths, the fees for outsiders are 90 euros. If you are allocated a place, you will be informed by letter about how you can pay.
Place allocation
Being allocated a place depends on the number of students who are going to give the lessons. Therefore places cannot be guaranteed. Everyone who applies will receive an individual reply. If you are placed, you will receive the message either from the Internship Office or from the Codarts student.
